CB-1, 1989-1990
The CB-1 is based around a high revving liquid cooled straight four cylinder engine, fed by downdraft carburetors and a large airbox. The engine was lifted directly from the Japanese market CBR400. Redline is at 13,500rpm, screaming through a four into one exhaust. A close ratio six speed gearbox sends power to the rear wheel via an 'O'-ring chain. A perimeter frame built from steel tubing provides the required rigidity. Power is a claimed 55.2bhp@10,000rpm. Peak torque is 29ft/lb@9,500rpm. Weight is 395 dry.
